DIY: How to make Gel Air Fresheners, with just a few ingredients!

gel1

I have posted my soy candle tutorial, but I know not everyone has access to all the materials to make candles.  If you like your house to smell good, but want to do it the easiest way possible, this is it!   It takes very few materials, and they are ones you probably already have.

They are:

  • Unflavored gelatin
  • Essential oil scents (I used candle scents)
  • Food coloring
  • Jars
  • Salt
  • Water

Isn’t that an easy list?

First, boil 2 cups of water.  Then pour in 3 envelopes of the unflavored gelatin, and stir until dissolved.

gel3

Then add your scents.  I used Berry Vanilla candle scent, but you can use your favorite essential oil scent.  I would suggest about 20-25 drops.  I estimated.

gel4

Add 1 Tablespoon of salt.  This will help prevent mold from developing.  You could also use a splash of vodka if you have it instead.

gel5

Pour into your jars.

I like to add my coloring AFTER I pour into my jars.  This way, I can easily make each jar a different color.

I used red for the small one, and I left the other one uncolored.

Let them sit and cool.  You can place in the fridge for a little bit if you’d like to hurry the process, but don’t leave them in there long.

These are completely cooled now, and have turned to gel.

You can see how the uncolored one turned out, and then the red one.

See?  Solid.  Will not pour out of the jar.

These will last about 30 days and will make your rooms smell lovely!

I like to keep one in the bathroom.

This is also a kid-friendly project.  Makes great gifts!
