DIY: Organize your greeting cards into a little book!

I will stand for an hour or more in the card aisle of the store, reading each and every card, until I find just the right one.  Sometimes I want a funny one to make the person laugh, and sometimes I want one that is more heartfelt.  And then when I get home, I always write a little personal note inside the card to that person.

Since I know what goes into giving a greeting card, it means something to me to receive one.  So wouldn’t you want to hang on to that forever?  I never throw out cards I receive.  I may have them stashed in every oddball drawer in the house, but I never throw them away 🙂

Which brings me to my next little project.  I’m tired of seeing these cards scattered throughout the house.  Cards are sentimental and I think they need a more permanent home.  So I made a little “book” out of my greeting cards.  This project is super simple.

You will need:

  • hole punch (1 or 2 hole punch)
  • 2 metal rings that clip
  • your collection of cards

Now, you can use a 1-hole punch, but I opted for my 2-hole punch for these two reasons.  (1) I wanted 2 rings in my “book” and (2) I’m not quite coordinated enough to make the holes all line up by using a single hole punch 🙂

So gather up all your cards, and even keep the envelopes if you have them. Punch holes in your cards (center them along the edge) and punch holes in your envelopes too.  Keeping the envelopes with the cards will be an easy way to remember that person’s address if you want to re-send them a card in the future.

Once you have them all hole punched, slide your metal rings through the holes.  I bought a 2-pk of these metal rings at Joann’s for $1.99.  I had to ask where they were, and they were in the yarn section.  You may be able to find them somewhere else for cheaper, but I was in a hurry and didn’t feel like shopping around.

When you are done, you have a cute little greeting card book.  Flip through them, laugh, cry, reminisce, whatever.  They are sure to bring you memories of a time past.   And now you can keep them all in one spot.
