I have a whole jewelry box full of jewelry, but very few pieces are silver. I’m much more of a “gold” girl. Silver is pretty, but it tarnishes. Gold always stays beautiful and shiny. But every now and then I do like to wear some silver. And since it’s not very often, by the time I want to wear it, it needs cleaning.
You don’t need to buy expensive tarnish remover at the stores, because you can get the same results from a couple of products you probably already have in your pantry! So here is a very simple way to remove tarnish from your silver! And it doesn’t have to be jewelry, either. This will work with all silver.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup Baking Soda (or more, if you are doing larger items)
- 2 Tablespoons of salt
- Boiling water (or at least almost boiling)
- Aluminum foil lined bowl
- Tongs (because the jewelry will be hot)
Line your bowl with aluminum foil. Add your baking soda and salt. Then add your boiling water. It will bubble! Stir, and then add your silver.
Let it sit for at least 5 minutes. It may need more time if your silver is really tarnished.
Use your tongs to remove the silver.
I am very impressed with how my jewelry turned out!
This ring was very tarnished and it came out great!
These earrings really impressed me. They were gross with tarnish.
Came out very shiny and you can actually see the silver again!
I haven’t worn this ring in years. (Can’t believe it still fits, either!) And now it’s pretty again!
