This is simply the EASIEST way to make yummy caramel. Forget the brown sugar and butter, mixing over the hot stove. This is the way to go.
Just grab a can of Sweetened condensed milk, any brand, and place it in your slow cooker. DO NOT OPEN THE CAN. Pour enough water in the slow cooker to completely cover the can. Then let it sit on HIGH for 4 hours.
After 4 hours, carefully remove the can (I use tongs, as it’s VERY hot!). If you are not in a hurry, let it sit for a while to cool off before you open it. If you must open it right away, place a towel over the top of the can while you open it with a can opener. Be prepared, because when you first pierce the can with the can opener, some of the hot caramel may squirt out at you. (This is why I place a towel over it when I open it).
Serve and enjoy! Great for ice cream, dipping fruit, cakes, popcorn, and more!
If storing, pour caramel into an airtight container, and place in fridge. This will also thicken it. YUM!
